Let’s start with the first step.
Step 1: Check root status of your device
The only way to install custom ROM Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is to root the phone. If you haven’t rooted your phone yet, head over to my earlier tutorial on rooting below.

In case you are unsure whether your phone is rooted or not, simply download a ‘root verify’ app from Google Play Store. Run the app and note the root status. If it says you have a rooted phone, move to the next step. Otherwise, follow the rooting tutorial from above link and go to step 2 when you have a rooted phone.
Step 2: Make a backup and boot into recovery mode
Now you need to make a backup of your phone. You can create the backup using any app of your choice. TWRP also lets you create a backup in the recovery mode.
Once you have done the backup part, boot your phone into recovery mode. You need to hold Power and Volume Down button together to go to recovery mode and follow the next step.
Step 3: Install the ROM
It’s time to install the ROM. From Recovery menu, find ‘swipe to factory reset’ at the bottom of the screen. After resetting the phone, tap on ‘Install’ from recovery menu and browse to the location of custom ROM that you want to install on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 phone.

After installing the custom ROM, be sure to do ‘wipe cache/dalvik’ from recovery menu. It’s at the bottom of the screen.
Step 4: Install Gapps
When you install custom ROM Xiamoni Redmi Note 4, you don’t install Gapps. However, you need these apps for many basic tasks on Android, including Play Store.

Once downloaded, go to recovery mode on your phone and tap on ‘Install’. It should bring up the browse screen. Select the Gapps file (zip format) you just downloaded. Since you might have downloaded the file on a PC, be sure to move it to your SD card so that you can access it using your phone.
