At the Mobile World Congress 2016, Alcatel has announced the new Alcatel IDOL 4 Series smartphones – the Alcatel Idol 4 and Alcatel Idol 4S; the Alcatel PLUS 10 and Chinese based TCL-owned company which uses to be referred to as ‘Alcatel OneTouch’, now wants to be simply known as ‘Alcatel’.
The Alcatel IDOL 4 series smartphones build on the fortune of the IDOL 3 series whilst also bringing new features like the augmented multimedia experience and Boom Key. In terms of design, the duo rocks a premium allure with a mix of metal on the frames and glass on the body.
The Alcatel IDOL 4 sports a 5.2-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) FHD IPS LTPS display and is powered by the Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor while the Alcatel IDOL 4S has a 5.5-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) QHD AMOLED display and powered by the Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor.
Both device packs 3GB of RAM, run Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, supports 4G LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 2 x 3.6W Stereo speakers, JBL Headphones, Hi-Fi Surround sound but the IDOL 4S (32GB) has twice the internal storage of the IDOL 4 (16GB) but both are expandable via a microSD card slot.
For photography, the IDOL 4 has a front facing 8MP camera and a rear facing 13MP camera; while the IDOL 4S has a rear facing 16MP camera and front facing 8MP camera with flash. The former is backed by a 2610mAh battery while the latter goes with a 3000mAh battery, both support Quick charging.
In terms of dimensions pricing, the Alcatel IDOL 4 measure 147 x 72.5 x 7.1 mm in dimensions and is priced at $250 while the Alcatel IDOL 4S is slimmer and taller at 153.9 x 75.4 x 6.99 mm and is priced higher at $400 and also comes with Virtual reality headset that is Google Cardboard compliant.
Both the IDOL 4 and IDOL 4S are available in Dark Grey, Gold, Metal Silver and Rose Gold colour options.
