The Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus unveiled its ‘next flagship killer’ smartphone OnePlus 3. After the innumerable leaks, the OnePlus 3 is here with Optic AMOLED display, Snapdragon 820, Dash Charging and 16MP OIS enabled camera and much more. Here is everything you need to know about the OnePlus 3.
Starting off with the display, OnePlus has employed a new technique called Optic AMOLED with special gamma adjustments and the anti-reflection coating to ensure the best plausible viewing experience from any angle. The shifting to AMOLED is a good move, but the much requested Quad HD resolution didn’t make its way. Although, OnePlus said that the 1080p resolution with 401PPI significantly enhanced with its own tricks that should provide the best experience to its consumers.
As expected, the Snapdragon 820 took the charge, which paired with enormous 6GB of RAM. It may be overkill for sure, but it’s there to lend best multitasking experience. Surprisingly, OnePlus opted for a single 64GB variant this time around. The device boots into OxygenOS 3.0 on top of Android 6.1 Marshmallow. The new iteration of OxygenOS has got much needed improvements in efficiency and smoothness. The vast processing power should be helpful to provide the smoothest experience on any OnePlus device.
It seems that the camera department improved a lot since the rear shooter bumped up to 16MP from 13MP found in OnePlus 2. Both the sensors sourced from Sony this time, no more OmniVision optics. The rear shooter is Sony IMX 298 sensor with 1.12μm pixels, which are smaller than any other flagship cameras out there. To remind you, Samsung, HTC and Google used sensors with 1.4/1.55μm pixel size. The smaller pixels in OnePlus 3 tend to show poor performance in darker situations (at least on paper), but it’s too early to comment on it. The front shooter measures 8MP in resolution and got better Sony IMX 179 sensor with 1.4μm size. The rear shooter also complimented by OIS and EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) alongside the PDAF. It is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps and 720p videos at 120fps. However, the missing feature is the Laser AF system.
The guys at OnePlus decided to cut down the battery capacity to compensate the thinner body. As a result, it has got a 3000mAh battery with Dash Charging technology built-in. The Dash Charging is OnePlus’s version of fast charging, which can push 5V power at 4A. OnePlus further claims that you can get 60% of the charging in just 30minutes. The Dash Charging is said to be faster, safer and cooler than other fast charging techniques. However, it is quite a disappointment of seeing smaller battery overall, but we are yet to see the longevity of the battery in real time.
The connectivity options are top notch and yes, you got the NFC back. The other features include Dual SIM, 4G LTE (Cat. 6), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, and BelDou.
