S5 Incompatible Charger
Problem: 3 days ago my phone charged perfect with the charger and then 2 days ago every time i would plug the charger in it would say ” The connected charger is incompatible with this phone. To prevent damage to your phone, charging has been stopped. to continue charging, use the original charger and cable that were provided with this phone” and then it has a red X on the battery at the top. well, i bought a battery charger and an extra battery which is what i have been using so i can still use my phone but now it will pop up and show me that message again randomly. My phone was just sitting there when it did it the first time and it has done it a few different times with nothing plugged in. please help! Thanks in advance
Solution: You will usually get this error message whenever a third party charger is used to charge the phone and doesn’t provide the necessary power rating to the phone. Samsung created this safety feature so that the phone does not get damaged by chargers that provide too much or too little current to the battery.
There are however instances when this error message can also happen despite using the original charger of the phone. If this is what’s happening right now in your case then you should do the following troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step if the current step fails to resolve the problem.
- Clean the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air, by blowing to it using a straw, or by using a cotton bud dipped in alcohol. This action takes out any dirt or debris that may be present in the port which could be causing this problem.
- Replace the charging cord. This cord gets easily damaged especially if it is constantly coiled or bent.
- Use a different Samsung wall charger.
- Replace your battery.
- Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the issue still occurs after following the above steps then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked as this could already be a hardware related problem.
S5 Battery Does Not Last Long
Problem: Hello I have purchased a new s5 for my girlfriend on for the Walmart straight talk plan. Recently she has had issues charging the phone and the battery does not keep a charge for long. She has factory reset and a lot of other suggested fixes. This happened after she was prompted to install Samsung power share app. But she has factory reset since then with same no charging issue.
Solution: If the phone has already been factory reset yet the problem still persists then other factors aside from the phone software could be causing the problem. Try to perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this problem. Move to the next step if the issue still occurs.
- Clean the charging port of your phone. Sometimes dirt or debris present in the port can cause charging issues. To clean this port use a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.
- Replace the charger and charging cord.
- Replace the phone battery.
S5 Not Working After Being Charged
Problem: My battery power was down to 6% so I plugged it in to charge. I received a text message so I went to read it but when I touched it I had a static shock and the phone haven’t worked since. Just the green power or charge light is on. The phone won’t do anything
Solution: If you got a static shock while charging the phone then this could already be a hardware related problem. Start the troubleshooting by taking out the phone battery then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This will discharge the phone circuit and clear out its RAM. Reinsert the battery then try to turn on the phone. If it doesn’t turn on then charge the phone for at least 20 minutes using a different charger and charging cord. Once the 20 minutes is up try to start your phone. If it doesn’t turn on then check if you can start your phone in recovery mode. If you are able to start your phone this way then I suggest you do a factory reset. Take note that this will delete the data stored in your phone so make sure to have a backup copy before proceeding with this step. One last troubleshooting step that you should do is to replace the phone battery.
If the above steps fail to fix the problem then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
S5 Restarts Constantly
Problem: I’ll be using my phone, weather it be taking a photo or video, or just on Facebook or internet, and my phone will restart over and over and over again. I’ve tried hard resets, taking the battery out or 30 seconds, taking battery out for 2 mins, nothing works! When I replace the battery it just keeps doing it. The only way I can use my phone is if it is plugged into the wall using the full, large, combo, charger that the phone comes with. it don’t work if I use just the mini USB to try to charge it. It just started happening 3 days ago and I haven’t installed any new apps on my phone, and the first time it happened I was using the video recording option. I’m very tempted to go AT&T and have them replace my phone but it’s not even a year old. Never had any kind of damage. And always been in a case. Please help! It’s like I have a corded landline phone again! Lol.
Solution: Since you already performed a factory reset then the problem could be caused by a component inside your phone that is failing which is most most likley the power IC. You can bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked or you can bring it to AT&T and claim the warranty if it still applies.
S5 Not Charging When Data Turned On
Problem: Hello. A couple of days ago i went on a website that i normally use. But on this particular day i went into this same website and got a pop up saying that my battery was damaged by a virus and shortly after that i noticed a significant change in the way my phone charges. Now my phone won’t charge at all with data turned on it will even decrease in percentage while hooked to charger. When data us off it charges but at a very slow rate. Can someone please help me.
Solution: Did you click on the pop-up link? If you did then you may have introduced a malware in your phone which could be causing this problem. What I suggest you do right now is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is done try to check if your phone now charges normally. If the issue still occurs then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Clean the charging port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol
- Use a different charger and charging cord when charging your phone.
- Replace your phone battery with new one.
S5 Not Turning On After Drop
Problem: Tech guy, I got a galaxy S5 mini in January of this year and have dropped it a few times, still works great minus the few dents around the edge. Earlier in school the battery was around 40% and in class it fell out of my pocket to the floor, I put it straight back into my pocket without checking it. On my way home I took it out and nothing would come up on the screen, so I tried taking the battery in and out numerous times and holding the power button, tried putting it into recovery mode and nothing happened. When I got home I left in on charge for a good 2 hours and each time I held the power button down to turn it on the LED light flashed purple and blue but the screen was still black where it should be lit up saying “Samsung” etc it even made the sound but the screen was black, I’ve tried everything and now the LED isn’t even going on anymore. What should I do? Regards
Solution: It looks like you already performed all of the troubleshooting steps that could be done for this type of problem. Does your phone have a microSD card installed? If it does you can try to take it out then check if the issue still occurs. If it does the drop may have caused an internal component inside the phone to fail. I suggest you bring the phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
