Sony Xperia Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update rolling out now

Sony has officially started rolling out the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for the older flagship devices like Xperia Z2 (D6503 only), Xperia Z3 (D6603 only) and Xperia Z3 Compact (D5803 only). The update becomes live almost a month after the Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, Xperia Z3+ and Z5 Premium’s Marshmallow update, which isn’t bad at all. To remind you, all the aforementioned devices already part of the Sony’s Marshmallow Beta program and expected to be updated with this major Android version. The wait is over now, and the latest update is available via Xperia Companion app. You can hook up your phone to the system via Companion app to update the device right away.

To talk more about the update, Sony didn’t change the firmware number of the public release, which is same as what we saw for Beta build — 23.5.A.0.570. Users can expect the standard Android Marshmallow features like Doze mode to extend the standby times, App permissions for better control over apps and smoother overall experience.

In addition, Sony has deployed a new launcher and UI experience for all Sony devices, which brings brand new visual experience for the users to feel a bit fresh when they are using the devices. The update comes pre-loaded Camera 2.0.0 for seamless photography experience and rather an old February Android security patch level instead of April, but you can expect small OTA updates in future for better security.
