With consecutive releases in 2016, Xiaomi is on a new product spree right now, and today the company has officially introduced its newest Redmi series smartphone in China, the Redmi 3s with Snapdragon 430 processor and 4100mAh battery, which is technically an upgraded version of Redmi 3 Pro that was launched back in March 2016. In the past couple of weeks, the Chinese internet company has announced several new products including, Mi Band 2, Mi Drone, Mi Box 4K, Yi Action 4K camera, Mi Max phablet and others. Let’s find out what has changed in the new Redmi 3s.
The Redmi 3s has a 5-inch screen that packs a 1280 x 720 resolution, resulting in 294 ppi. Under the hood, it has a latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 Octa-core clocked at 1.4GHz and Adreno 505 GPU for graphically intensive tasks (Check here). The Redmi 3s is available with 16GB (eMMC 5.0) or 32GB (eMMC 5.1) of native storage options with respectable 2GB or 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM configuration. However, it supports storage expansion of up to 128GB via a microSD card.

Just like the Redmi 3 Pro, It’s equipped with a 13-megapixel f/2.0 rear-facing camera with LED flash and PDAF. On the front, it sports a 5-megapixel f/2.2 shooter with 1080p video recording capability. For connectivity, it also features Hybrid Dual SIM, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and microUSB 2.0. It has a massive battery that’s pegged at 4100mAh and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 7.
One of the biggest talking points of this smartphone is that it has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor that can unlock the device in just 0.3s. In addition, the Redmi 3s boasts a metallic unibody design, measures at 8.5mm thick and weighs 144 grams. With the high-capacity battery, it’s definitely one of the sleekest looking smartphones on the market.
Price & Availability:
Xiaomi has confirmed that the 16GB variant of Redmi 3s will retail at 699 Yuan (approx. $106) and 32GB for 799 Yuan (approx. $120). It will be available in Silver, Dark Grey and Gold color options starting from June 16th on Mi.com. The company is yet to announce when the Redmi 3s will launch in other regions outside of China.
In our opinion, the Redmi 3s is the smartphone for users who are looking for a marathon battery life with a compact screen and great design.
